In 2017, the project began as a Welcome Garden in front of the historic Creutzberg Center to honor 80 years of Main Line School Night (MLSN), a continuing education organization dedicated to to promoting personal enrichment and enhancing the quality of the community.
The garden serves as a place to gather, meet and mingle before and after classes and as an outdoor classroom for classes, and brings the mission of MLSN beyond its doors into surrounding Hartford Park.
Over the years the garden has continued to grow extending across the drive as it gradually wraps around the building.
Designed for beauty, biodiversity and resiliency the garden has thrived on minimal stewardship and no supplemental water since it was planted in June 2018. A cosmopolitan plant palette provides year-round interest and habitat. MLSN staff enjoy counting the new Monarchs each year.
A constant reflection of the times as it responds to heat, drought and snow plow strikes. The garden persists in a world full of turbulence and unknowns. A wonderfully resilient garden has become a symbol for a wonderfully resilient community of lifelong learners.
