Plant Community
Elm Grove Library
& Village Hall
In 2014 the Friends of the Elm Grove Library asked for help redesigning the Library Garden and a decade plus project began.
Community has always been the heart of this garden. Designed as a resilient novel plant community to celebrate the vibrancy of the community in which it resides and the community of people who steward it.
Since the first small garden was installed in the spring of 2015, seven additional expansions have taken place wrapping the garden around the Library and along the front of Village Hall.
Designed for beauty, resiliency and habitat the design is deceptively simple. A rotating team of volunteers stewards the garden with varying levels of experience and expertise. Its biggest challenge is new volunteers loving it to death.
Positivity is contagious and the garden continues to grow and inspire other plantings in Village Park and by resident homeowners. By request, additional educational offerings about the garden are added annually.
Beauty and resiliency attract interest and the garden serves to help establish new baselines of beauty and ecology throughout the village.
